- If you can tell us name, last name and job positions.
Ok my name is Chris Barker and I’m the scout coordinator at Huddersfield town.
- How did you become a scout?
Ok so I started a physics degree and I started working for Watford ad an intern for free on my second year. I took a year out and keep working at Watford then Brighton and Cheshire United and then I left football, becoming science teacher for a couple of years and then I got back to football this summer working for Huddersfield town.
- How is tough (How tough it is)to be a scout in Premier League?
It’s really tough, we’re one of the smallest clubs that have ever been in the Premier League so we try to find Premier League players on lower leagues budgets..but we got around that by being really organized, by being really efficient, we know exactly what we want.
- Huddersfiled is in a very good position this year.
Yeah, we’re in a really good position, we’ve got fantastic managers, fantastic owners, the crowd is great, the town is buzzing so it is a great place to come and play football so it makes easier for our job to recruit.
- Who was the first player you discovered?
My first player would have been when I was at Watford and would have been players coming on a loan like Tom Cleverley and Henri Lansbury so maybe players that other people didn0t think they were quite ready for first team football at championships level and we took a gamble on but obviously it’s not just me, it’s a team effort
- What do you think about Wyscout Forum and its opportunities?
This is the first one I’ve ever been to but I’m really looking forward to so it’s good just to meet people, either try to talk about their players or your players, their leagues or your league, trying to have more of a feel of what money is like, what the player is like, how long the contracts are, some other things that would be a bit hard to find on line..but also just to talk to other people doing a similar job to you so if you can learn something from them or viceversa.
- Another question: how do you organize your work, your daily work as a scouting coordinator?
So, lot of it is overseas just talking to other staffs so nowadays it often happens via email as well as phone calls because it’s quicker, you can talk to everyone at once and then obviously we come here we check how players has done recently and just trying to keep information of everything, well everyday is different but there is a pattern, so obviously at he start of the week you read the reports from the weekend, look at the stats from the weekend then as the week goes on you start planning for the next weekend and the weekends after.
- Could the Wyscout Forum a good opportunity for the next transfer window?
Yeah definitely we think so yeah we’re not looking to do lots of loans but there might be a couple of transfers so obviously you never know who you gonna meet, some may suggest of situations of players available we wouldn’t have thought they were available..so we’re not gonna commit to sign a player today we obviously want to go to do some more research but we should definitely register some names we’re gonna do some work on.
